Last month, the 2nd Annual Future of Financial Shared Services took place in the beautiful little big city of Bratislava. More than 100 attendees from all over Europe came together at Crowne Plaza Bratislava to discuss future trends in the Shared Services world, review last year’s take-aways and seek advice from their peers in order to take their organization and team one step ahead from competition.
The day started with the brilliant opening remarks by our chairman Jamie Davies followed by the keynote presentation from Laszlo Mocsy, Head of Operations at LafargeHolcim. He helped attendees understand how to fulfill their customers’ expectations by managing dynamic growth while ensuring continuous service quality. After a short Q&A, Jolien Heylen, Advisor Compliance Solutions from Bureau van Dijk, took the stage and share her insights on increasing KYC and improving procedures on third party due-diligence.
Ulf Reinhold, Sales Director EMEA, and Sven Rossbach, Managing Director from WMD had a co-presentation on practical steps for increasing efficiency and effectivity. During their presentation they share Allianz’s story on AP process optimization and how to support it in a SCC.
Personal development is as important as professional development. That’s why we prepared a special workshop for our attendees. Erhan Ali Yılmaz, Chief Mindfulness Officer from Mindful Academy, talked about “hacking your brain” and overcoming stress. All audience had to relax and enjoy themselves following Erhan’s instructions. The task was simple. Just breathe and focus on yourself!
After our delicious lunch prepared by Crowne Plaza Bratislava, the audience was split in two streams. Stream A was dedicated to new shared service centers in the CEE region while Stream B to mature and 2nd generation SSC and GBS.
- Michal Sterba, Independent Shared Services Consultant, analyzed 3 different case studies to demonstrate the various approaches and strategies mid-sized and mid-caps enterprises currently adopt.
- Hannu Kasi, Global Business Services Implementation Lead from ABB, shared a lot of his expertise and practical knowledge while taking an active part in various discussions. His presentation brought valuable insights into ABB organization and showed a lot from the future trends.
- Jamie Davies, Finance Shared Services Manager at Computacenter kept the audience engaged with his enthusiasm as a chairman. He also explored the opportunities of improvement in partnership and value in existing SSC functions during his presentation.
- Adrienne Darvas, former SSC Executive at Avis-Budget Group, Vodafone, Ambev & Getronics, talked about business partnering, what tools can be used and how to get over cultural barriers when discussing improvements to the relationship.
During the afternoon, Mariusz Szalaj, Former Director and Board Member of Avon Global Shared Service, revealed the SSC’s operational performance excellence as a “foundation” for a cost optimization program.
Last but not least, Mariusz Szalaj, Hannu Kasi and Jamie Davies had an open discussion with the audience regarding GBS and how to get beyond the status quo. Attendees had the opportunity to share their thoughts, ask questions and work together towards a common goal: progress and continuous improvement.
The day ended with a lively informal party at Venturska Klubovnia where everyone enjoyed the well-known Slovak cuisine and craft beer and discussed the outcomes of the first day. In addition, everyone had the change to hop-in Presporacik for a sightseeing tour around the city.
Continuous Improvement and Efficiency- Day 2
One of the most remarkable moments of the Future of the Financial Shared Services came in the early morning of the 2nd day. Tomas Balco, General State Counsel of the Ministry of Finance of Slovak Republic had the opening remarks regarding the future of shared services centers in Slovakia. Later in the afternoon, Mr Balco outlined the benefits of establishing a SSC in the CEE region and specifically in Slovakia.
Regarding Operation Excellence Optimization, Fabrice Duquense, General Manager BCS from BT, shared his experience on how to go beyond your status quo and achieve the progress.
Next on stage was Silvia Imre, HR Manager SSC Bratislava from Swiss Re. Silvia presented a case study on operation excellence and specifically on how it can support your SSC strategy.
Our second workshop during this 2-day event was delivered by Eoin Hanley, Director of PathawaysHR. Eoin spoke about return on investment for training and shared his techniques with the audience on how to ensure their employees’ training contributes directly to business goals and delivers results.
Right after lunch, all of our moderators briefly introduced their topic regarding talent management, innovation, process optimization and pricing and pointed out several crucial issues. Attendees had the opportunity to pick their own roundtable discussion according to their preference and interest.
Andrzej Kinastowski, Operations Delivery Strategist at Lufthansa GBS delivered an enjoyable case study on continuous improvement program. Not only that he received 4.84 points out of 5 and became the best rated speaker but his real-life examples showed directions which can be followed by various SSC’s professionals.
Last but not least, Maria Eremina, Head of Shared Service Center from Raiffeisen Bank, elaborated more on continuous improvement by sharing Raiffeisen Bank’s lessons learned.
