George Connell

VP Strategy – Finance Operations, Royal Dutch Shell, United Kingdom


George is responsible for Shell’s global Finance & Data Operations strategy- ensuring that Shell has a sustainable, world-class network of finance operations locations supporting its business activities. He is also the Finance Centre Lead for the Glasgow, UK, Shell Business Operations (SBO) location where he is based. George graduated in Finance and qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant before gaining an MBA from Glasgow University. Prior to joining Shell he held various finance and general management roles in organizations including Grand Metropolitan, Avon Cosmetics, Britoil and Whitman Corporation. He joined Shell in 1998 as Finance Manager of the shared services Joint Venture (TASCO) that Shell created with Ernst & Young, and helped to establish the first shared service center in Glasgow. He has subsequently held various finance and operational roles in Shell’s finance shared services organization before moving to his current role in Finance & Data Operations. He is a regular
speaker at external shared service events, is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants shared services advisory council and has recently participated in developing the finance shared services certificate for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants’ Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation. George enjoys spending time with his family – wife Shirley and children Katie and Ryan. His outside interests include watching football, swimming, walking and reading.
